The 2012 season has finally wrapped up, and what a successful year it was. With hard work and long hours in the shop, the UW Steel Bridge Team took 1st place at the Great Lakes Regional despite failing 4 load tests prior to competition. After narrowly escaping the lateral test at Bradley University, the team went back to work to perfect the run as well as stiffen up the bridge before nationals. Thanks to many dovetail replacements in the week leading to nationals, the team departed for Clemson University in South Carolina feeling pretty good about their chances. At the national competition the team placed very well as you can see here:
Overall: 6th Place
Structural Efficiency: 3rd Place
Lightness: 5th Place (135 lbs)
Construction Speed: 8th place (7 min, 42 sec)
Aesthetics: 4th Place
